Matt was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1978 and spent his childhood and schooldays there. Initially interested in journalism, music and radio he eventually received his first film education at the New York University in the summer of 1996, followed by a number of independent projects - mainly short films - as a cameraman in and around the city of New York.
In autumn 1997 he enrolled to the Master Program of International Business Management at the University of Vienna and the University Sorbonne in Paris, France. He graduated in the summer of 2002 earning the academic title "Master of International Business Sciences". Parallel to his business studies Matt continued working as a freelance cameraman on fiction short films, extreme sports films, documentaries and music videos accross Europe and the US.
In the summer of 1999 he joined the 35mm Cinematography Class at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Upon completion of the course he was immediately hired as a cameraman on a variety of music videos and short films in and around LA.
In January 2003 Matt enrolled to the 2 year Cinematography Master Program at the National Film and Television School in London, UK. During that time he lit and shot numerous short films in different areas of film & television, and finally graduated in December 2004 earning the title "Master of Arts - Film and Television".
Matt returned to Austria in December 2004 setting up his new homebase in the town of Wels. However, he continued to take on international assignments as a freelance cameraman and director - mainly accross Europe, the USA and Australia. Projects include numerous extreme sports films (ski & mountain) for a variety of commercial clients and international TV (Eurosport, ORF, Servus TV), music videos for Carouge, Cinderella, Sorgente, Company X and "Tanzwerk Showteam", documentaries for national and international TV (ORF, ARTE, 3Sat, Servus TV) and Red Bull ("Kirby Chambliss Portrait") as well as commercials for cinema and TV. He also works as a cameraman for WT1 TV on a regular basis.
Awards include "Best Cinematography" at the Los Angeles New Wave International Film Festival for the documentary "Skydancers", directed by Fredric Lean.
In still photography Matt's specialisation lies in advertising and sports with a special focus on Ski Cross and Tennis on the international ATP and WTA tour as well as work for the Austrian Tennis Association "ÖTV" on the Davis Cup events of the Austrian Team. In Spring 2015 Matt got invited to join the ITPA (International Tennis Photographer's Association) as a member. He is now one of 32 photographers worldwide belonging to this elite group of professionals in the Tennis photography realm.
